Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification Exam
Independent PMP® Practice Exam
This independent PMP practice exam follows the July 2026 Examination Content Outline from the Project Management Institute (PMI®), the one in force for every exam scheduled on or after July 9, 2026. The exam is 180 questions (170 scored, 10 pretest) in 4 hours, across three domains: People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%. A free 25-question diagnostic shows your result in each.
The free PMP diagnostic is being prepared and is not open yet. The exam facts and the content outline on this page are current.
The outline changed in July 2026, and the weights moved a long way. Under the outline it replaced, Business Environment was 8% of the exam; it is now 26%. People went from 42% to 33% and Process from 50% to 41%. The length changed too: the retired exam was 230 minutes with 175 scored questions, and the current one is 240 minutes with 170. Material built for the old outline under-prepares you for more than a quarter of the current exam.
PMP questions are situational. They describe a project, a team and a problem, and ask what the project manager should do. Several options are usually things a project manager might reasonably do, which is why each question here explains all of them: the reason an option is second-best is the thing to learn.

Who takes it
Experienced project leads. PMI offers four routes to eligibility, each needing experience within the last 10 years: a secondary diploma plus 60 months leading projects, an associate-level qualification plus 48 months, a bachelor's degree plus 36 months, or a PMI GAC-accredited degree plus 24 months. All four also need 35 hours of project management training, which is waived for active CAPM® holders.
What the PMP exam covers

How to use the bank for the PMP exam
- 1
Check all three domains before you plan
The 25-question diagnostic is weighted like the exam. If you studied from older material, look at Business Environment first: it is where the outline grew most.
- 2
Practice choosing between good options
In tutor mode, commit to an answer and a reason before reading the explanation. If your answer was right for the wrong reason, treat it as a miss.
- 3
Train for the breaks as well as the clock
The exam is one 240-minute clock with two 10-minute breaks, and you cannot return to earlier answers after a break. Practice in three blocks and close each one before you stand up.
- 4
Sit full-length mocks
180 questions in 4 hours. PMI allows three attempts within your one-year eligibility period and charges the exam fee again for the second and third, so a mock is the cheap place to find out you are not ready.
What is in the paid PMP bank
The question bank
The PMP bank is still being written. The live count appears here when questions are published.
Every option explained
A written reason for every option, right and wrong, plus a one-line takeaway, a cited reference and the outline task the question tests.
Tutor mode and timed mode
Tutor mode shows the explanation after each question. Timed mode holds everything back until the end, at exam pace.
A readiness band, by domain
Your first-attempt results weighted the way the exam weights its domains, shown as a band rather than a pass probability: nobody outside the exam owner knows the cut score.
A study plan
Set your exam date and the plan divides the questions you have not seen across the days you have left, weakest domains first, with the mock exams placed in the back half.
PMP passes
A pass is access for a fixed number of days. You pay once; nothing renews.

How the questions are written and checked
Step 1
Written to the public outline
Each question is written by AI against one task in PMI's published content outline. Nothing is taken from the exam itself.
Step 2
Solved blind by a second model
A different model answers the question without seeing the key. If it does not reach the same answer, the question is not published.
Step 3
Audited for flaws and duplicates
A separate pass looks for item-writing flaws: two defensible answers, a giveaway in the wording, a rationale that contradicts the key. Near-duplicates are removed.
Step 4
Corrected in public
Learners can report any question. Reports and answer statistics flag questions for withdrawal or correction, and every correction is logged.
There is no human subject-matter-expert review in that process, and we do not claim one. What you get instead is a cited reference on every question, so you can check it yourself. Read the full methodology or see the corrections log.
PMP practice questions: common questions
Did the PMP exam change in 2026?
Yes. PMI's updated exam went live on July 9, 2026 with a new Examination Content Outline. The domains are now People (33%), Process (41%) and Business Environment (26%), and the exam is 180 questions in 4 hours. This bank is written to that outline.
How many questions are on the PMP exam?
180. 170 are scored and 10 are pretest questions that do not count and are not identified.
How long is the PMP exam?
240 minutes on a single clock, with two 10-minute breaks. Once you take a break you cannot go back to the questions before it.
What is the passing score for the PMP exam?
PMI does not publish one. The standard is set by psychometric analysis, and your result is reported as pass or fail with diagnostic information on your performance. Any percentage you see quoted as the PMP pass mark is an estimate.
What kinds of questions are on the PMP exam?
Single-answer multiple choice, multiple-response, case or scenario sets, graphic-based, matching, pull-down and point-and-click questions. PMI's outline marks the matching, pull-down and point-and-click types as available only at test centers.
Can I take the PMP exam online?
Yes. It is delivered through Pearson VUE either at a test center, which PMI recommends, or online with remote proctoring.
Is this PMP practice exam free?
The 25-question diagnostic is free and needs no account. The full bank, timed mode and full-length mock exams are part of a paid pass, charged once and never renewed.
How many times can I retake the PMP exam?
Up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period, paying the exam fee again for the second and third. After three unsuccessful attempts you must wait one year from the last one before reapplying.
