ParaPro Assessment
ParaPro Practice Test
This ParaPro practice test follows ETS's ParaPro Assessment: 90 questions in a single 2 hours 30 minutes sitting, divided about equally between reading, mathematics and writing. In each subject roughly two-thirds of the questions test your own skills and one-third test applying them to help in a classroom. The free 25-question diagnostic needs no account.
The free ParaPro diagnostic is being prepared and is not open yet. The exam facts and the content outline on this page are current.
The ParaPro is unusual in testing two different things under each subject. About two-thirds of the reading questions ask whether you can read: find the main idea, work out a word from context, tell fact from opinion, interpret a chart. The other third ask whether you can help a student learn to read: sounding out words, breaking them into syllables and roots, using a dictionary. Math and writing are split the same way.
If you prepare only the academic content, the classroom questions will be unfamiliar: they describe a student's work or a teaching moment and ask what would help. Both kinds are in this bank, each tagged to its topic in ETS's outline.

| Eligibility | ETS lists no prerequisites. The test is for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals, and whether it is required is decided by the state or school district. |
| Passing standard | Qualifying scores are set by each state or school district, not by ETS. The score report shows the score and whether it meets the qualifying score for the state of the selected score recipient. |

Who takes it
Prospective and practicing paraprofessionals: teaching assistants and classroom aides. ETS lists no prerequisites for the test. Whether you need it, and the score you need, are decided by your state or school district, so ask the district you work for or are applying to before you book. ETS now also runs newer ParaPathways tests, and some states accept those in place of the ParaPro, so confirm which test your district wants.
What the ParaPro exam covers
ETS gives each subject about 30 questions, roughly a third of the test. Within each, the A topics are skills and knowledge and the B topics are applying them in the classroom.
| Domain | Weight | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| IReading17 tasks | 33.3% |

How to use the bank for the ParaPro exam
- 1
Find out which third is your weak one
The 25-question diagnostic covers reading, mathematics and writing in the same proportions as the test, about a third each.
- 2
Rework the math by hand
The math starts from arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and goes on to percentages, place value, exponents and the order of operations. Work each problem on paper first, then compare your steps with the explanation.
- 3
Practice the classroom-application questions on purpose
These are the part-B topics in ETS's outline. In tutor mode, read why each option would or would not help the student described; the right answer is usually the one that addresses the specific error shown.
- 4
Do one full sitting
90 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes is about 100 seconds a question, with no separate section timers, so you manage the time across all three subjects yourself.
What is in the paid ParaPro bank
The question bank
The ParaPro bank is still being written. The live count appears here when questions are published.
Every option explained
A written reason for every option, right and wrong, plus a one-line takeaway, a cited reference and the outline task the question tests.
Tutor mode and timed mode
Tutor mode shows the explanation after each question. Timed mode holds everything back until the end, at exam pace.
A readiness band, by domain
Your first-attempt results weighted the way the exam weights its domains, shown as a band rather than a pass probability: nobody outside the exam owner knows the cut score.
A study plan
Set your exam date and the plan divides the questions you have not seen across the days you have left, weakest domains first, with the mock exams placed in the back half.
ParaPro passes
A pass is access for a fixed number of days. You pay once; nothing renews.
30-day pass
$19one-off

Refund within 7 days if you have answered fewer than 50 questions. Pass guarantee: complete 100% of the bank with an average of 80% or better, and if you still do not pass the exam your pass is extended by 90 days at no charge.
How the questions are written and checked
Step 1
Written to the public outline
Each question is written by AI against one task in ETS's published content outline. Nothing is taken from the exam itself.
Step 2
Solved blind by a second model
A different model answers the question without seeing the key. If it does not reach the same answer, the question is not published.
Step 3
Audited for flaws and duplicates
A separate pass looks for item-writing flaws: two defensible answers, a giveaway in the wording, a rationale that contradicts the key. Near-duplicates are removed.
Step 4
Corrected in public
Learners can report any question. Reports and answer statistics flag questions for withdrawal or correction, and every correction is logged.
There is no human subject-matter-expert review in that process, and we do not claim one. What you get instead is a cited reference on every question, so you can check it yourself. Read the full methodology or see the corrections log.
ParaPro practice questions: common questions
What is on the ParaPro test?
Reading, mathematics and writing, about 30 questions each. In each subject about two-thirds of the questions cover skills and knowledge and about one-third cover applying those skills to assist classroom instruction.
How many questions are on the ParaPro test, and how long is it?
90 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes, taken as one sitting rather than as separately timed sections. ETS says the test may include some questions that do not count toward your score.
What is a passing score on the ParaPro?
ETS does not set one. Each state or school district sets its own qualifying score, and your score report shows whether you met the one for the recipient you selected. Ask your district for its number.
How much does the ParaPro test cost?
$55 at a participating test center, though some centers add their own charge, or $85 if you take it at home with a live online proctor.
Can I take the ParaPro test online at home?
Yes. ETS offers it at home with a live online proctor, with appointments seven days a week, as well as at participating test centers such as school districts and regional offices of education.
Is the ParaPro test hard?
The content is reading, writing and basic math, plus how to help students with them. How hard it feels depends mostly on how long it has been since you did fractions or grammar by hand, which is what a diagnostic will show you.
How many times can I retake the ParaPro?
You may retake it once as soon as you like. If you need more attempts, you must wait 7 days after your most recent attempt and may then test two more times; further retakes follow the same pattern.
Is this ParaPro practice test free?
The 25-question diagnostic is free and needs no account. The rest of the bank and the mock exams are on a paid pass, charged once with no renewal.
